This winter, ZOO Planckendael near the city of Mechelen will once again shine with a magical light festival you won’t want to miss: Dragons of the North. From 25 October 2024 to 5 January 2025, the park will be transformed into a winter fairy tale, where the mystique of The Far North comes to life. This fourth edition of the festival promises you a breathtaking experience full of light and magic, just like the previous years of China Light ZOO.
Mythical Beings and The Northern Lights
At ZOO Planckendael this winter, imagine yourself in enchanting Scandinavia, where ice meets fire. While the Northern Lights dance above you, explore a world full of mythical figures. Meet friendly trolls, dance with elves and face imposing reindeer and a howling werewolf. Have you always wanted to see a giant? This is where that dream comes true! Even dragons and a majestic four-metre-high phoenix sparkle in the dark winter nights.
With more than 60 impressive light compositions and 1,000 twinkling light objects scattered throughout the park, Dragons of the North offers a spectacular experience for young and old alike. Take selfies with luminous wings or jump around among the light objects. Above all, don’t forget to update your Instagram with these magical images!
Warm up the Winter
Besides the impressive light show, ZOO Planckendael also provides a cosy winter atmosphere. Enjoy crunchy churros, steaming hot chocolate or a glass of mulled wine while warming up by the crackling braziers. Together with family, friends or loved ones, a visit to the light festival will be an unforgettable experience. Read more below the photos
