Tourist Boat Trip and Suppen at Mechelen

Boot Trip Mechelen : A day out on the water to the numerous attractions in and around Mechelen (Belgium) is always an experience in itself. Mechelen is a historic and contemporary and tourist city, so there is always something to do in terms of activities. Doing fun things is a joy for me and also for you, but especially for the children. I like to take you on an adventure through my city of Mechelen with a boat tour and a surfboard with paddle.

A cruise on the Inside-Dijle

A fun event in Mechelen is a boat trip on the Dijle river in the heart of the city. This way, a day out becomes something unforgettable on the water. Especially for the Dutch or Flemish-speaking tourist, I can recommend the pleasant trip “Bootjesvaren oep ze Mechels” (Boat trip with a guide in local dialect). This tour on the water is an extra event organized outside the normal boat tours with tourist information. The pleasant boat trip is a nice addition to the pleasant walk through Mechelen and is organized by Malinska.

Bootjevaren oep ze Mechels (Boat trip with a guide in local dialect), is a playful outing on the water in the Mechelen dialect. I can imagine that you do not understand the Mechelen dialect, therefore booking a classic boat trip with the normal tourist information remains possible. The normal information on the boat is done in Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish.

The boat tour in Mechelen dialect, like the classic boat trip, takes about 40 minutes. Amusing city guides who have been taught Mechelen from childhood will be happy to entertain you with their pronunciations.

Rest assured there is a lot going on on the water. The numerous anecdotes and jokes are fun and sometimes serious. Every day is different, but it’s still fun, even for the kids.

The boat trip in an open boat takes you along the beautiful spots along the water of the Binnendijle right through the city. A tip: in case of rain, it is best to bring an umbrella or rain suit. The river is closed along both sides by a lock.

During the boat trip you can enjoy the view of the famous fish market and the old historic buildings. In the direction of the turning dock you pass the small but cozy marina of Mechelen, where you can also admire some beautifully restored houses. In the other direction you have an excellent panorama of the Kruidtuin and the Volmolen. The city government of Mechelen is always on the move, so there are plans to further extend the tour along the Dijle to the Nekker.

With a surfboard, paddle or Kano through the city

Stand up Paddle or SUP for short is the newest initiative in Mechelen. If you want to explore the Binnendijle a little more sportily, since 2014 you can do so on a surfboard and paddle. Like the boat trip, this event is possible during the spring and summer months.

Wide surfboards make their way past the city center. Walkers on the Dijlepad admire the courage of the participants on the water. The journey while paddling on the Binnendijle starts at the Via Via travel café on the edge of the Kruidtuin to the Keerdok. It is not a very difficult sport, all ages can enjoy this relaxing event. The chance of ending up in the water is small, if it does happen the intiatives are always around to help you. More info at Tourism Mechelen.
