Christmas Market Mechelen: Mechelen, the charming city on the Dijle River, is once again transforming into a fairytale winter wonderland this winter. With a Christmas market bigger and more atmospheric than ever before, the city invites everyone to enjoy the holidays.

A Growing Tradition
What began as a small initiative on the Korenmarkt has grown into a grand event spread across four atmospheric squares: the Vismarkt, Haverwerf, Onder-den-Toren and, of course, the Korenmarkt. Organizers have worked hard to grow and improve the Christmas Market each year. “The impossible I wouldn’t say,” says Guillaume Clerens, one of the driving forces behind the Christmas market. “Every market has its own charm and we want that in Mechelen too.”

The positive response from visitors and local business owners has encouraged organizers to put even more effort into this winter tradition. The Christmas market has not only become larger, but also more diverse. Besides the familiar stalls selling hot chocolate and mulled wine, you will also find plenty of local products, handmade gifts and tasty food.
A Warm Bath for Local Entrepreneurs
The Mechelen Christmas Market is more than just a cozy place to shop. It is also a platform for local entrepreneurs to sell their products and showcase their businesses. “We would like to provide opportunities for local associations and entrepreneurs,” said Kristof Calvo, president of Mechelen Feest. “By spreading the Christmas market over several locations, we can reach more people and boost the local economy.” Read more below photos

The first evening of the Christmas market is already luring a lot of people out of their homes to soak up the atmosphere. Traders also got their share of joy by celebrating Local Friday, the equivalent of Black Friday.
